Library Catalog

The library catalog is available online at: http://silc.swau.edu/aquabrowser/
We use the Library of Congress Classification system to organize most of the material in our library. We use the Dewey system to organize most of our children’s books. Using these systems, each book is given its own call number. The call number is used to locate the books on the shelf. Material related to English language and literature can be found in the following call number ranges or areas.

Reference materials such as dictionaries, encyclopedias, almanacs and atlases provide facts and statistics and are usually arranged so information can be easily located. They can be used to narrow or broaden a search topic or provide needed details for your research. Most of our reference material is located on first floor. Indexes are used to locate citations (the information on where the article is found and who wrote it) of articles on a specific subject or subjects. When you have found the citation(s), you go to the shelves to locate the article(s). Articles not available in our library may be obtained through interlibrary loan. Databases

Our library databases, found on our web page, offer many options for locating material in the area of English language and literature. These databases are online indexes. Some of them have only the citation (the information on where the article is found and who wrote it) and an abstract (a short description of the article). Other databases offer some or all full-text articles. In other words, the whole article is on the computer. The ones most likely to help you in your research are listed below.

Literature Resource Center

Provides access to biographies, bibliographies, and critical analyses of authors from every age and literary discipline. Combining Gale Group's core literary databases in a single online service, the Literature Resource Center covers more than 120,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists, and other writers, with in-depth coverage of 2,500 of the most-studied authors.

NetLibrary

Provides access to a collection of 28,274 e-books. NetLibrary eBooks are digital full-text versions of books such as reference works, scholarly monographs, literature and fiction in all subjects.

Twentieth Century Poetry

This collection of contemporary American and British poetry provides full-text access to the literature.
