Community Patrons

Approved by SWAU's Library Advisory Committee, August 2, 2006

Chan Shun Centennial Library welcomes community users. The library's study and recreational materials are chosen for adults but include some books and videos for children as well. Most of the services at the library are accessible to all the community, with two primary exceptions: interlibrary loan service and access to the MicroGarden (the library's computer lab) are restricted to Southwestern students, faculty, and staff. Library cards give community patrons the ability to check out library materials including the laptops with wireless card for use within the library. Use of the laptops for accessing resources that are illegal, immoral or obscene will result in the loss of privileges to use library computers.

The library encourages local community members to acquire a library card and thus obtain borrowing privileges. Applications for a card may be obtained from the circulation desk, and require a driver's license or other valid photo ID at the time of application. Applicants will receive a list of the privileges that come with a library card, which includes assuming financial responsibility for the materials borrowed. Newly-requested library cards will be created by the Public Services Librarian within one to three business days. Patrons will be notified when the card is finished and may retrieve cards at the circulation desk. Library cards are not mailed out.

Prices for cards are as follows:
