Services for Persons with DisabilitiesApproved by SWAU's Library Advisory Committee, August 2, 2006Chan Shun Centennial Library and Southwestern Adventist University are committed to providing parity of service to SWAU community members with disabilities. Wheelchair accessible parking is available across the street from the library. A ramp provides access to the library entrance on the north, street side. No ramp is necessary on the south side entrance. All three floors of Chan Shun Centennial Library are wheelchair accessible from the elevator, located around the corner from the circulation desk. Restrooms with wheelchair accessible stalls are located on each floor. Research Help: Reference service is available from Sunday (12:00 noon – 8:00 pm), Monday through Thursday (9:00 am – 8:00 pm), and Friday (9:00 am – 12:00 noon). The public services librarian, technical services librarian and the library director will assist as needed with research help. Retrieving Materials: The circulation staff will retrieve books and journals from the stacks upon request. Patrons with special needs should schedule assistance with the library's public services staff to ensure that someone is available to aid in materials research and retrieval. Electronic Resources: Subscription databases contain e-books and journal articles (many full-text) accessible online through the library's home page. For off-campus access, patrons should contact Information Technology Service to set up a user account, available to all current SWAU students, faculty and staff. For help using the library web page or the databases, patrons should contact the library's main desk. Online Catalog: The library's online catalog is accessible through the library's home page: http://library.swau.edu/ and can be used off-campus or within the library. Wheelchair accessible computers are located on the first and third floors of the library. Loan Periods and Renewals: The library staff will adjust the loan period on materials as needed to meet particular needs. Interlibrary Loan: Requests for interlibrary loan may be made in the library, through online forms on the library's home page, or over the phone. Copiers: The circulation staff will assist patrons in using the photocopiers in the library. If time permits, requests may be filled on demand. However, for best service, patrons with special needs should call ahead to the circulation desk. Microforms: The circulation staff will provide assistance in using microfiche or microfilm materials. Audiovisual Materials: Videos, DVDs and CDs are located on the first floor of the library. The circulation staff will provide assistance with retrieving or using these if needed. Computer Lab: The library's computer lab, or MicroGarden, is located on the first floor of the library. Student assistants in the MicroGarden or at the circulation desk will assist patrons who need help in using the equipment in lab. Special needs' patrons should contact the library's main number to schedule assistance if possible. Laptops are available for use within the library as well. Specialized Research Collections: Curriculum Library, Adventist Heritage Center, and Ellen G. White Research Center These research collections, on second floor, have separate staffing hours. For assistance in using the Curriculum Library or the Adventist Heritage Center, patrons should contact the library's main desk. For assistance in using the materials of the Ellen White Research Center, contact the White Research Center. |
