My grandfather served in WW2 and when I saw this book it grabbed my attention. I had heard some stories of what he went through but many of his memories were too painful to talk about and after reading this book and reading the way that Luttrell treats the subject in a serious yet tender tone, I can see why it still brings tears to my grandfathers eyes when he talks about the brothers he lost in war.
Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell returned home after serving as a member of Team 5 for Special Operations in Ramadi, Iraq, which became one of the greatest victories that America has ever seen. In this book he tells the story of his survival and of the brave men that he was privileged to serve with. He wrote this book in honor of those men that he lost in battle and for the men and women that continue to put their lives on the line for our country today.
Luttrell tells his story in a way that moves a person to have even more respect for the people fighting for our country than ever before, he shows the brotherhood that is formed and the trust and love that they all share for each other. This story is thrilling yet unbelievably moving, it paints a clear picture in a persons mind of what our soldiers really go through in combat. I would recommend this book to any person especially anyone that is contemplating enlisting in the military. It is important to know the cost of our freedom and Luttrell shows us its value.
