Depression : cognitive behaviour therapy with children and young people

I turned to this title to learn more about counseling theories in order to be a competent therapist. However, I think this would be a great read for any parent, teacher, pastor or medical doctor. It helps you understand the mental processes of young people, especially with regards to depression. It goes from causes to symptoms to treatment with a research-based approach.

While this title cover a range of therapeutic measures, including identifying emotions and sleep therapy, it focuses on cognitive behavior therapy, an approach whose goal is to eliminate a self-defeating outlook on life and acquire a more rational and tolerant one. This is done in tandem while collaborating with the client in practicing behavioral techniques that will disprove self-defeating perceptions and lead to measurable progress.

A book worth reading!
