Trafficked : the terrifying true story of a British girl forced into the sex trade

Based on the experience of a young woman forced into prostitution, this title helped me gain some insight for a project I was working on for one of my classes.

An educated working British woman, Sophie thought nothing strange of an invitation to Italy by Kas, a man she was dating. Shockingly, on the day of her supposed return to England, he made it very clear that she was not going to be returning home. . . ever.

Burdened with a shady debt to pay back, he resorted to raising funds by forcing Sophie into prostitution under threats to her loved ones' lives. Characterized as a poor Russian by Kas to her customers, the terrified woman eventually became totally numb to all feelings and emotions that she once had about her ordeal.

Daily beaten, yelled at and degraded mentally and emotionally, Sophie soon began to believe all the things that Kas told her about herself. She gave in to feelings of worthlessness until a providential life threatening illness gave her a chance to escape.

This very intriguing book gives you an inside look at the sordid world of sex trafficking. I would recommend this book to college students and other adults who are interested in the topic from a victim's perspective. Sad and almost unreal, this is nonetheless a story worth reading.
