Do

• Pick a topic that interests you
• Check your syllabus for suggestions and details about the assignment
• Check the first floor of the library for encyclopedias about your topic - they have lots of useful ideas and basic information!
• Talk with your professor about your topic

Don't

• Pick something that has been overdone or that other students are likely to write about.
• Worry about having enough material -- the library and its databases have lots of articles, books, and other sources on all sorts of topics!
• Wait until the last minute -- even with a great topic, you will need time to find sources and write and revise your paper
