First Year Experience

Links and resources for first-year students

Studying at the Library

The library can help you study!

We are a quiet place to study, open longer than anywhere else on campus.

You can read books and magazines in the library.  Students can check out up to 25 books to take home for four weeks.

Research guides point you at all sorts of useful things.

Study Space

Study tables and carrels abound throughout the library.  The reading room and Microgarden on the first floor have many study tables.

Unreserved study rooms, as well as study rooms 2A and 3A, can be used on a first-come first-served basis.  University use has priority over non-university use.

  • Second floor: six small study rooms (4 people)
  • The Chet Edwards Room on the second floor can be used after 5 PM or all day on Sundays.
  • Third floor: two large study rooms (8-12 people)
  • The library classroom on the first floor, has 13 desktop computers, a printer, productivity and design software, and a digital projector.
  • The Microgarden computer lab on the first floor

In the quiet study area on the third floor, no talking or cell phone use is allowed.

Meadows Gallery, or functions in the library lobby, must be reserved through the University calendar system.  This is also true for the Chet Edwards Room for 8-5 on weekdays.

Printing

Student printing

Most computers in the library allow student printing -- check that your computer is printing to either the Corner B&W printer (black-and-white only) or the Microgarden printer (black-and-white or color). Copies are charged against your printing account, which is run by the IT department. You will need to see IT to add money to your printing account.

Public printing

We are not currently providing printing services to community members.

Wireless Printing

Students and faculty can print from laptops or tablets with wireless connectivity.
