Getting started with research

  • Look closely at your assignment and figure out what you will need
  • Give yourself a rough timeline, and be sure to allow enough time for research.  Starting a long assignment the night before it is due is usually sub-optimal and we do not recommend it.
  • Remember that research is an iterative process: you will search, find some material, and use it, but then find yourself with new questions that need new searches and new answers.  This is a normal part of the research process.
  • Ask a librarian for help with your research
  • Tutoring is available from CASA
  • The Write Spot is ready to help with writing and revising papers
  • If you need a book or article that is not available in our library, we can get a copy from another library.  This takes up to 21 days, so please ask early!
